Overview

The Pocket POD by Line 6 is basically a tiny version of the POD 2.O. Tons of great amp, cabinet and effects models make this unit great for covering a vast range of tones in a small package. It does have a lot more presets that the POD 2.0 which makes it a little more fun to play with. You can plug directly into a sound system, recording interface, amp or just straight use your headphones. The power supply is not included so be sure to pick that up too if you buy it. I have heard of people frying these when using the wrong power supply so it’s probably a good idea to buy the recommended one.

Price   -   8/10

$129.99

Sound Quality   -   8/10

The sound quality on this little guy is pretty great. Granted it’s not a real Marshall half stack or a Fender Twin but you can still get miles and miles of versatile great tones out of it. The dynamics of the amp modeling can be a little flat and cold at times but hey, its not a real amp and it fits in the palm of your hand. Most of the tones that I really liked were from just a handful of amp models. I could live without all of the rest of them but it is nice to have them there if you ever need them for a specific gig or project.

Build Quality   -   8/10

The Pocket POD is made of plastic so it feels kind of cheap but what can you expect for something that small. I took it on several tours and did not have any problems with it. You could say it has been road tested and it has passed.

Features   -   8/10

• 32 amp models
• 16 cab models
• 16 effects or combination of effects
• Built in tuner
• A.I.R modeling technology
• Hundreds of presets
• Direct out/Headphone jack
• Uses either 4AAA batteries or power supply
• USB cable connection to Vyzex editing software
• CD/MP3 in
• Amp out

Ease of Use   -   7/10

It can be a bit difficult to dial in the exact tones that you want without the Vyzex software but once you dial in your favorite tones it’s a piece of cake to change between them. The Vyzex software is pretty easy to use. It looks a lot like the POD 2.0 physical interface.

• Lots and lots of sounds for something so small
• Pretty good presets and lots of effects
• Price is pretty affordable
• Vyzex software makes detailed sound editing easy
• MP3/CD input makes it easy to play along with your favorite music

Cons

• Can be difficult to navigate without Vyzex software

Overall Rating   -   7.8/10

The Pocket POD delivers everything that the POD 2.0 does but it does take a bit more effort to tweak your tones because of the limited controls on the unit. I would really recommend this little guy if you travel a lot and need something small to take with you that covers all styles of music. It is also great for just laying fast tracks down on your laptop or whatever you record your music on.
