Overview
The PRS SE Semi-hollow Soapbar is kind of an odd-ball guitar but in a really good way. If you are looking for a P-90 equipped guitar for under $700 this is a very good option for you but the coolness doesn’t stop there. The SE Semi-hollow Soap bar is chambered out so the tone is very unique. The tone of P-90 pickups tend to cut through a mix well to begin with but the chambered body on this guitar gives it a bit more midrange and mellows out the P-90’s a bit.
The chambering makes this guitar super light, great if you have back problems or just don’t like standing up with a heavy guitar.
It’s nice to see one of the bigger guitar companies making quality guitars that the majority of guitar players can afford. The construction, hardware and pickups are all above average for a guitar in this price range.

$634.00 Pretty good price for all of the great features that you get. Tag on an extra $40 or so for the gig bag.
Sound Quality - 9/10
I just really started to experiment with P-90 pickups about a year and a half ago and I really love the sound. You get the open glassy sound of single coils with a bit more of the body and guts that you might expect with a humbucker.
The chambered body is really nice because it adds some pretty cool characteristics to the mid tones of the guitar. I’m glad that they made the body of the guitar out of mahogany and the top out of maple. That combo really provides a balanced tone.
Build Quality - 9/10
The build quality on the PRS SE model guitars is defiantly above average. Good hardware, electronics and construction all work together to give you a good bang for you buck. I did notice that the fretboard had some kind of white filler residue left on it but it came off with some polish. I have seen this on a number of other PRS SE models as well. Not a big deal but it should not leave the factory with that kind of stuff on it.

If you are looking for a P-90 guitar with loads of character the PRS SE Semi-hollow Soapbar does not disappoint. It sounds great and it is very light. The construction is above average when compared to other Korean made guitars in this price range.
P-90’s do have their own distinct sound so be sure to try one out to see if you dig their vibe. This guitar may be great for many different styles of music but metal is kind of out of the question.
