Overview
Let me just start off by saying that I am reviewing this starter guitar package against other starter guitar packages not high-end guitars. That would be an unfair comparison.
The Gigmaker Standard guitar package by Yamaha is a pretty dang good value for what you get. It starts at $159.99 and all of the accessories that you will need to start playing the guitar are included. The sound of the guitar is a bit flat and muffled but it is an inexpensive beginner guitar so what can you expect. The thing that I like most about the Gigmaker is that they are consistently easy to play. I have played a lot of these guitars and the set-up on them is pretty good and relatively consistent compared to other value package acoustic guitars.
Price - 9/10
$159.99 - Natural Finish
$169.99 - Tobacco Sunburst Finish
Sound Quality - 7.5/10
The sound on this inexpensive guitar is really not bad but upgrading to the Gigmaker Deluxe is well worth it. The Gigmaker Standard has a laminated top and the Gigmaker Deluxe has a solid wood top that gives the tone a bit more low end. Overall I wish I could have started out on a guitar like this instead of the horrible sounding/playing guitar on which I leaned.
Build Quality - 7.5/10
I would say that the build quality on the Gigmaker is a bit above average for starter packages. It is all laminated wood, which I have a bit of a problem with but I guess that is how they keep the price so low. The tuners on this guitar are actually pretty good. Other starter acoustic guitar packs really skimp on the tuners and that can really cause tuning problems.
Features - 8/10
• F325 acoustic guitar
• Die-cast tuners
• Pack comes with gig bag, electronic tuner, strap, extra strings, picks and an instructional DVD
Ease of Use - 8/10
This package makes starting to play the acoustic guitar convenient. The DVD and tuner make learning how to tune the guitar as painless as possible. After you get the guitar tuned up all you have to do is go!
Pros
• Great Price
• Accessories Included
Cons
• All laminated wood
• Gig bag seems to be a bit too small for the guitar
Overall Rating - 8/10
If you need an acoustic guitar and all of the accessories to go along with it at a really low price I would really recommend this guitar. If you can afford it you might want to upgrade to the Deluxe model for the added sound quality. Either way, this hearty little guitar will be sufficient starter for anyone.
